Definition and Purpose
Definition: High-pressure flanges are flanges used for connecting pipelines or equipment with pressures above 10MPa.
Purpose: Widely used in fields such as petroleum and petrochemicals, oil and gas extraction, industrial gas production, oil refining, chemical industry, minerals and nuclear power, aerospace, and shipbuilding, for connecting various high-pressure pipelines and equipment.
Type
Traditional high-pressure flange: Achieves sealing through the plastic deformation of sealing gaskets (oval gaskets, octagonal gaskets, lens gaskets, etc.), generally consisting of a pair of flanges, a gasket, and several bolts and nuts.
High-pressure self-tightening flange: The core relies on the elastic deformation of the sealing lip (T-shaped arm) of the sealing ring to form a seal, belonging to hard sealing. Each set of high-pressure self-tightening flanges usually consists of a collar, a sleeve, a sealing ring, and bolts.
Features
Traditional high-pressure flange
Sealing principle: Relies on the plastic deformation of the sealing gasket, which is easily affected by factors such as temperature and pressure, resulting in poor sealing reliability and prone to leakage under harsh conditions.
Connection method: Connected by bolts, which must withstand tensile forces, thermal stress, as well as various external stresses such as bending moments and torques, requiring high strength and installation standards for the bolts.
Volume and weight: Large volume, heavy weight, difficult to install and position, increasing construction difficulty and costs.
High-pressure self-tightening flange
Sealing performance: Uses metal-to-metal hard sealing, the elastic deformation of the sealing ring can adapt to different working conditions, ensuring reliable sealing and effectively preventing leakage.
Mechanical properties: Has good tensile strength, bending resistance, compressive strength, and impact resistance, with the strength of the connection point exceeding that of the pipeline base material, capable of withstanding large tensile, bending, compressive, and impact loads.
Installation and maintenance: The collar can be freely adjusted in 360° directions, making installation convenient and time-efficient; low maintenance costs, long service life, generally reaching 25 to 30 years.
Material selection
Carbon steel: Such as ASTM A105, 20#, Q235, 16Mn, etc., relatively low price, good strength and toughness, suitable for general high-pressure pipeline systems.
Stainless steel: Such as ASTM A182 F304, 304L, F316, 316L, etc., with excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance, commonly used in high-pressure pipelines in corrosive media or high-temperature environments.
Alloy steel: Such as ASTM A182 F1, F5a, F9, F11, F12, etc., with high strength and hardness, good corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance, suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, or highly corrosive complex working conditions.
Imported materials: Such as nickel steel, WC5 (1.25% chromium 0.5% molybdenum steel), WC9 (2.25% chromium), etc., can meet the requirements for high-pressure flange use under special working conditions.
Manufacturing standards
National standard: Such as GB/T 9112-2010 "Steel Pipe Flanges Types and Parameters", GB/T 9113-2010 "Integral Steel Pipe Flanges", etc., which specify the dimensions, tolerances, and technical requirements for high-pressure flanges.
American standard: ANSI B16.5 "Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings", ASME B16.47 "Large Diameter Steel Flanges", etc., are commonly used high-pressure flange standards in the United States.
European standard: EN 1092-1 "Flanges and their joints - Circular flanges for pipes, valves, fittings and accessories, PN designated - Part 1: Steel flanges", etc., widely used in Europe and some international projects.
